Occupational Therapy in Columbus, IN

As a not-for-profit organization, Developmental Services Inc. seeks to improve communities and the standard of living for children and adults with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities. Our occupational therapy services are an individualized and holistic approach to improving lives, helping those with disabilities function in the world with equality.

How Can We Help?

Occupational therapy can help individuals of all ages and forms of physical and sensory disabilities. The therapy involves a hands-on, personal assistant who evaluates the needs of the individual to determine which self-care activities will increase independence, prevent disability, or achieve other developmental goals. The therapist can help with activities like brushing teeth, washing the dishes, or driving to work. Therapists may even assist with job placement and eventually job follow-along. In cases of mental or sensory disabilities, therapists can aid the learning process and create safe routines to enhance patients' lives. For some, therapy involves a weekly or even daily visit with a team member who helps them learn or increase body strength. For others, a more hands-on approach is needed to achieve living goals. Supported living offers a malleable relationship between the therapist and the individual.

Who Do We Help?

Through our REACH program, we help people of all ages with a wide variety of disabilities. For infants and toddlers, we seek early intervention to recognize disabilities and establish practical and encouraging routines for the family that can enable a fulfilling life for the child. For individuals who have suffered injuries or who have conditions that affect the body's ability to move, like MS, our therapists provide specialized training to manage conditions.
